Role Overview
SGS is seeking a Civil Engineering Learner in Nelspruit. This is an excellent opportunity for young graduates looking to gain hands-on field and laboratory experience within a world-class testing environment.
Key Responsibilities
Site & Workshop Duties
- Clean and prepare work areas after tasks or at the end of each day.
- Ensure all materials, tools, and consumables are removed and the area is left safe and tidy.
Quality & Safety Compliance
- Follow SGS quality and safety standards at all times.
- Report irregularities, deviations, and non-conformances immediately.
Field & Laboratory Testing
Perform accurate sampling, testing, and related calculations, including:
- Density testing
- Stockpile/layer sampling
- Manufacturing and handling concrete cubes
- DCP testing
- Ring & Ball tests (road surfaces)
- Sand patch tests
- On-site viscosity tests
- Asphalt, seals, concrete, and aggregate sampling
- Assisting with laboratory quality control under supervision
General Operational Support
- Perform any other tasks assigned by supervisors or managers.
- Uphold discipline and professionalism in the department.
Minimum Requirements
Qualifications
- NQF Level 4 / Diploma in Civil Engineering
- Computer literate (Microsoft Office – Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- English language proficiency
YES Programme Criteria

- Be a South African citizen
- Be 18–30 years old
- Be unemployed
- Have no criminal record
- Be willing to relocate to Nelspruit
- Be physically fit and able to lift/move samples
