South African National Parks (SANParks) is calling on unemployed South African youth to apply for the EPWP Semi-Skilled Environmental Monitor Programme 2025/26. These positions are based at Agulhas National Park, Western Cape, with three fixed-term opportunities available until 31 March 2026.

About the Programme

The Biodiversity Social Projects Environmental Monitor Programme provides unemployed youth with work experience in nature conservation. Successful candidates will support daily operations, assist with environmental monitoring, and contribute to ecological restoration efforts.

  • Contract Duration: Until 31 March 2026
  • Stipend: R208 per day (EPWP rate)
  • Reports To: Section Ranger / Ranger Sergeant

Minimum Requirements

  • Grade 12 / NCV Level 4 (Std 10)
  • Strong interest in nature conservation
  • Good communication skills
  • Willingness to work flexible hours (weekends and after hours)
  • Medically fit (fitness exam required)
  • No criminal record (SAPS verification applies)

Added Advantages:

  • Computer literacy
  • Basic Firefighting training

Preference: Youth aged 18–35 years

Key Responsibilities

  • Assist with tools, vehicles, herbicides, and stock control
  • Handle admin tasks: timesheets, reports, safety checklists
  • Conduct ecological monitoring and invasive alien clearing
  • Support fire management and fence maintenance
  • Participate in community awareness programmes
  • Contribute to restoration, waste management, and ad-hoc conservation duties
