About the Role
The Engineering Assistant role provides entry-level exposure to the mining industry. Working under the guidance of an Artisan or Engineering Supervisor, successful candidates will perform general engineering support, basic maintenance, and housekeeping duties.
This position is ideal for individuals with basic technical knowledge and a strong willingness to learn in a structured environment.
Minimum Qualification Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Matric / Grade 12 or an equivalent NQF Level 4 qualification
- Relevant NATED course (e.g., N3 Certificate)
Skills and Experience Requirements
- At least 1 year of mining experience (advantageous, but not mandatory)
- Proficiency in English (written and verbal)
- Basic knowledge of workplace safety and risk procedures
- Ability to manage time effectively and follow instructions
- Understanding of workplace processes and procedures
Key Duties and Responsibilities
As an Engineering Assistant, you will:
- Support engineering activities (lifting, holding, and positioning materials for repairs or assembly)
- Assist artisans in dismantling and reassembling components
- Load and off-load materials from transport vehicles
- Move materials between work and storage areas using basic tools or equipment
- Assist with breakdowns and installations to reduce downtime
- Perform general housekeeping duties for safety and cleanliness
- Act as an observer (fire watch, inspections, or pipeline checks) when required
