Job Purpose

Electoral Officers assist with planning, coordinating, and implementing election activities at voting stations to ensure elections are conducted fairly, efficiently, and in accordance with South African electoral legislation.

Key Responsibilities

Successful candidates may be required to:

  • Assist with voter registration activities.
  • Prepare voting stations before polling day.
  • Verify voter information and election documentation.
  • Guide voters through the voting process.
  • Issue ballot papers.
  • Assist with vote counting and reconciliation after voting closes.
  • Ensure compliance with IEC policies and procedures.
  • Safeguard election materials and equipment.
  • Work closely with Presiding Officers and other election staff.
  • Perform additional election-related duties as required.

Minimum Requirements

Requirements may vary depending on the position, but applicants are generally expected to:

  • Be a South African citizen.
  • Possess a valid South African ID.
  • Be able to read and write English and at least one official language spoken in their area.
  • Have good communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Be willing to work extended hours, including weekends and public holidays during election periods.

Previous election experience will be an advantage but is not mandatory for many positions.
