Who Can Apply?

To qualify, you must:

  • Be a South African citizen living in Gauteng.
  • Hold one of the following:
    • Senior Certificate
    • National Senior Certificate (NSC)
    • Currently in Grade 12
    • National Vocational Certificate (Primary Health)

Minimum Academic Requirements

For Senior Certificate Holders:

  • English: HG (D) or SG (C)
  • Biology: HG (D) or SG (C)
  • Mathematics: HG (D) or SG (C)
  • M Score: 17

For National Senior Certificate (NSC) Holders:

  • English: Level 4
  • Life Sciences: Level 4
  • Mathematics: Level 4 OR Maths Literacy: Level 5
  • APS: 27 or higher (Life Orientation counts half the score)

For National Vocational Certificate Holders:

  • 50% in Fundamental Subjects (English FAL, Maths/Maths Literacy, Life Orientation)
  • 60% in Vocational Subjects (SA Health Care System, Public Health, Human Body and Mind, Community Primary Care)

For Current Grade 12 Learners:

  • Must meet NSC requirements based on Grade 11 final results.

Selection Process

If shortlisted, you must complete:

  • A psychometric assessment
  • Medical surveillance (including physical exam)
  • Verification of submitted documents

Commitments After Selection

If accepted, you’ll need to:

  • Sign an agreement with the Gauteng Department of Health
  • Attend lectures at your assigned campus
  • Take part in Work Integrated Learning (WIL) — including shifts, weekends, nights, and public holidays at Gauteng Department of Health hospitals and clinics
