RECRUITMENT OF CASUAL WORKERS TO CONDUCT TRAFFIC COUNTS

The Gert Sibande District Municipality (GSDM) invites unemployed persons to apply for their traffic count vacancies (X25 Posts). The closing date for applications is the 12th April 2024

POSTS: TRAFFIC COUNTERS X25

  • Stipend: R250 per day (12-hour shift)
  • Duration: Fourteen (14) days

The GSDM is a recipient of the Rural Roads Asset Management System (RRAMS) Grant whose purpose is to assist rural district municipalities in South Africa to implement road asset management systems (RRAMS), and to collect road condition and traffic data on municipal road networks in line with the Road Infrastructure Strategic Framework for South Africa (RISFSA).

This data must further be incorporated into a Pavement Management System (PMS) that is to be used by Local Municipalities to ensure that their Road Maintenance Programs are based on scientific information to ensure the Municipal Infrastructure Grant (MIG) funding is spent correctly.

STRATEGIC OUTPUTS OF RRAMS:

  • Road condition data (paved and unpaved)
  • Traffic data
  • Bridge condition data

As part of the implementation of this program, Gert Sibande District Municipality is conducting traffic counts in your municipal area during the month of May 2024. The project will require 25 casual workers to conduct traffic counts for a period of 14 days during the said month.

The advertisement for the recruitment is attached to this letter and we request your Human Resource section to assist with the distribution of the advertisement and collection of responses.

The employment & payments of the casual workers will be concluded and funded by GSDM. All CVs will be collected after the closing date from your LMs and begin with the selection of qualifying individuals.

JOB PURPOSE:

Traffic counters to conduct traffic counts in Dipaleseng Local Municipality from 3rd to 16th May 2024 and Mkhondo Local Municipality from the 7th to 20th May 2024 including weekends. Shifts will be up to 12 hours. Traffic counters will typically perform counts for a period of 14 days.

Counters will receive training beforehand (half day session). This will include technical training, as well as a safety induction. Counters will be required to meet the supervisor at the offices of the local municipality or agreed location thirty minutes before the start of a shift.

REQUIREMENTS:

  • Minimum Grade10.
  • Between 18-35 years.
  • Unemployed not receiving state grant namely old age pension, disability and foster care grant.
  • Must be residing within the same vicinity or walking distance from the counting station.
  • Proof of residence is required.

CRITERIA:

  • Trustworthy, reliable and committed
  • Be available to work long day shifts
  • Attention to detail
  • Ability to work with figures

MUST HAVE:

  • South African ID Document
  • Proof of residence not older than three months
