About the Opportunity
This is a fixed-term learnership designed for candidates who want to become Basic Pharmacist Assistants. Successful applicants will complete the Learner Basic Pharmacist Assistant Course and receive practical workplace training.
Once registered with the South African Pharmacy Council (SAPC) as a learner and successfully qualified as a Basic Pharmacist Assistant, candidates may be offered permanent employment.
Minimum Requirements
Applicants must have:
- Grade 12 (Matric) or Senior Certificate.
- At least 50% in Pure Mathematics.
- Life Sciences and/or Physical Science.
- An overall average of at least 50%.
- South African citizenship.
- Ability to pass the SAPC proficiency test.
- Clear criminal and credit records.
Key Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of a pharmacist, learners will:
- Assist with dispensing medication.
- Help prepare and compound non-sterile medicines.
- Assist with the sale of Schedule 1 medicines.
- Accurately pick, pack, label, and check medication.
- Assist with stock control and monitor medicine expiry dates.
- Receive and unpack dispensary stock.
- Maintain cleanliness of the dispensary and OTC shelves.
- Follow up with patients regarding prescriptions.
- Assist with chronic, HIV/AIDS, and oncology medication authorisations.
- Support customer service through telephone calls and script tracking.
- Promote health by providing appropriate information to customers.
- Perform additional duties assigned by the Dispensary Manager.

- Retail or FMCG experience.
- Previous Dis-Chem experience.
- Knowledge of family planning and complementary medicine.
- Experience with Unisolv, SAP, or E-Scripting systems.
Employment Conditions

- Be eligible for SAPC learner registration.
