About the Learnership
This opportunity is open to individuals residing in South Deep’s host communities and offers hands-on training and theoretical knowledge to help learners become qualified artisans in the electrical trade. The programme combines technical training, practical work experience, and short courses required for artisan development.
Host Community Eligibility Criteria
Applicants must reside in one of the following host communities:
- Bekkersdal
- Zuurberkom
- Thusanang
- Hillshaven
- Westonaria
- Poortjie
- Simunye
- Kalbasfontein
- Jachtfontein
AND must have passed all 4 N3 trade-specific subjects required by the MQA and South Deep Gold Mine.
Minimum Requirements
- Grade 12 with Mathematics and Physical Science
- Full N3 qualification with the following subjects:
- Engineering Mathematics
- Engineering Science
- Electrical Trade Theory
- Industrial Electronics
- Must be medically fit for the mine environment and pass a Heat Tolerance Screening test at the Gold Fields Occupational Health Centre
- Attach all relevant certificates with your CV

Duties and Responsibilities
- Attend technical training and complete short courses as required
- Maintain consistent performance and seek feedback
- Participate in developmental discussions
- Follow the mine’s health and safety rules, policies, and code of conduct
