Purpose of the position:

The Research Study Enrolled Nurse will support study implementation, including biological sampling and on-site testing, support for referrals, under supervision of a Professional Nurse.

Minimum Requirements

Must have 4yrs relevant expereince

Enrolled Nurse qualification (with Phlebotomy)

Registered with SANC

Certification in and demonstrated understanding of Good Clinical Practice and related codes and laws applicable to the conduct of human subjects’ research in South Africa a bonus

Familiarity with community-based research principles

Knowledge and experience in research with key populations, ideally with female sex workers

Knowledge of harm reduction services ideal

Knowledge of HIV/AIDS and STI screening, diagnosis and management, including pre-exposure prophylaxis

Experience in conducting, interpreting and counselling people using HIV and other rapid diagnostic tests

Experience in obtaining patient blood and sputum samples

Experience in preparing and submitting biological samples to the lab for testing

Strong focus on quality management and quality improvement processes

Exceptional attention to detail

High level written and verbal communication

Strong organisational and interpersonal skills,

Fluency in English and local language(s) where the study site is located

Clear criminal record

Duties and Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the Professional Nurse Counsellor collection of blood samples through phlebotomy

Collection of sputum samples

Performing rapid point of care tests (HIV, viral hepatitis B & C, recency, p24 and syphilis)

Preparation of Dry Blood Spot and Plasma Separation Card samples

Referral for services; initiation or onsite referral for PrEP and ART initiation, STI treatment; HBV vaccination

Prepare samples for transport

Follow-up on blood and sputum results as needed

Filing of participant’s study forms and laboratory results

Participant follow up for actionable results

Issuing of educational material and prevention packs

Support stock control procedures

Implements and maintains data collection and analysis systems in support of research protocol

Ensures study data are stored in a secure location with limited access and in compliance with applicable guidelines and standards;

Implements and continually monitors quality control processes throughout the conduct of the research study and implements corrective action where needed

Engaged in daily and weekly review of data and study and site related meetings

Establishes and maintains relationships with participants;

Establishes and maintains relationships with laboratory and related service providers;

Completed and supports maintenance of records of research activities, and prepares periodic and ad hoc reports, as required by investigators or administrators;

Communicates protocol violations or adverse events to line manager;
